Crossroad Volunteer Internship Program
Crossroad Health Center began in 1992 as an effort to provide access to quality medical care to a population that otherwise had very little access. At its core, it is a Christian-based healthcare center, focused on caring for patients' spiritual needs as well as their physical needs. Beginning in Over-the-Rhine, it has since spread to other areas of Cincinnati and reports approximately 20 000 patient visits per year.
The volunteer program began in 2013 as a way to bring in undergraduate students to fulfill a very real need in the clinic. In January of 2013, there were seven interns, scrambling to find a way to fit themselves into the clinic and improve the services provided. As of January, 2014, there are 75 active interns and a host of alumni, spread across three of Crossroad's four locations. These interns track referrals, contact patients, create and implement screening tools, and perform a host of other miscellaneous tasks in the clinic.
