Executive Role: UC Campus Public Relations Director
In order to help the program run smoothly, interested interns can apply for any of several executive board positions. These positions span a variety of roles managing various aspects of the program.
Near the end of my first rotation, I applied for and was accepted as the UC Campus Public Relations Director. In this role, I was the direct link between administration and advisors at UC and the interns.
As the PR director, my roles were divided into two spheres: managing the recruitment process, and overseeing our social media outlets, in particular the blog.
Near the end of each rotation, we contact all of our partner universities, especially pre-health advisors, and ask them to send out notices to their students regarding the upcoming application cycle. Once the application opened, I was required to read incoming applications and place them into a shared folder so that they could be reviewed and graded by all interns in the program currently. This made me the primary contact between applications and the program, in addition to the program coordinator. Once applications had been graded and interviewees chosen, I generated and sent emails to applicants with their interview date and time, as well as other necessary information. Following interviews, it was my task to inform applicants on their acceptance status.
During the rest of the semester, I monitored the blog, created a schedule for reflection posts, received/edited/uploaded reflection posts, and updated the information in various sections of the blog to keep it up-to-date. I also helped to monitor our other various social media outlets (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram) and helped suggest content to be posted to each outlet.
