Notes
The biggest part of this course, at least as for as homework and such went, was taking notes each week over what we read. This helped a lot with understanding the concepts we were exploring and definitely helped me to participate better in class discussions, both online and in class.

Neighborhood Presentations
During the first few weeks of class, we chose various neighborhoods in the area we would be staying (generally in the Queens area). We were grouped into groups of about three. During the semester, we conducted our own research about these neighborhoods, including history, ethnic makeup, and status among immigrants. During our visit to New York, we will be given a day to split into our groups and visit our neighborhoods to experience the local culture, as well as report our findings.
I became part of the Astoria group. Astoria is located to the west of Queens and east of Manhattan. Below are the project paper (note that this is note a formalized paper, per the request of Professor Porter) and the project presentation we presented to the class on April 8th, 2014. My groups members were Linda Venturato and Joshua Beckelhimer.
